In Memory Of My Sister Margaretann

Don't stand by my grave and weep,
For I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint of snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
...
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning, hush.
For I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circle flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand by my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die.
RIP Sister.

A Sad Anniversary

In Memory Of

Dad

A gentle man, a gentleman, who passed away
17 years ago today.
A day that will forever be shrouded in sadness
for me and my family.

A small photo but a huge memory of life with Dad

"An Invisible Thread"

“An Invisible Thread” is an ancient Chinese proverb that says “when two people are destined to meet nothing can keep them apart.” It’s like a thread that will bend, it will stretch and twist but will never break.   – Maurice and Laura

Love and food brought the two together 25 years ago.

When Maurice was just a boy – the two of them met when he was just 11 – he was literally walking the streets of New York begging for money because he hadn’t eaten in two days.  When his path crossed with Laura’s both of their lives changed forever.

Book:  “An Invisible Thread” is a true story.

September 11, 2001, Morning of...

Ken and I were just married less than four months. I was getting ready for class at college when he called me. With a bold voice, he told me to "TURN ON THE TV~  NOW." I stood there absolutely aghast at what I was seeing. Actually, sadly, incomprehensibly saw the second plane hit the second, south tower. My world, THE world changed that day, never to be the same again.  RIP all the Angels of 9/11/01.

Website - Mine, et al.

Hello!

Been very busy on a number of projects. I gave a client's website a redesign and update, which was well-received. While deriving a great sense of accomplishment in doing so, prepping my business website for a huge redesign, update, and upload has been the most time consuming project. It involves changing my CSS from internal to external since I have several pages of work from various artistic genres to upload.

I have a host of photographs for exhibit and purchase, including exquisite and dynamic travel photos (NJ, NY, PA, VA, D.C., Niagara Falls, Norway), animals of all kinds, interesting and unusual architecture, beautiful landscapes and an assortment of vibrant flowers for nature lovers, and a project in and of itself - photo restoration.

In addition to artwork, I have writing, copy editing, and proofing skills which I picked up while in the workforce just prior to embarking on my college education. Many pieces are demonstrated within my online writing portfolio. My transcription skills have recently been put to good use, as well, on the topic of metaphysical spirituality, which I found most interesting and enjoyed working on tremendously.

Another project I have almost completed is a printed directory using Quark and CS5.5.

How To License Your Art Work Seminar

Took place Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Pratt Institute in NYC.

Panel of three very talented and intelligent people, plus a moderator who asked all the questions I was concerned about.

A two-hour span of time that was well spent.

Thank you, Graphic Artists Guild, for holding this event...and many more upcoming.

Surtex is being held this weekend with Wednesday being the final day.

Thank you so much!

When you know better, you do better

Dean of Oprah University, teach me the fundamentals.
Let people surprise me and to serve their higher good when I do that.
Be seen for who I really am, by example: playful, passionate, and practical all at once.
You've changed my life, you've inspired me, you've become my sistah from another mother from afar.

Do I have a message that is worth listening to? You bet. It will shine through my artwork through my personality, through my vulnerabilities.

You are unique in that you showed up and showed the world your insides, the truth; something that not all people can handle. Of those of us who could, you gave us all permission to be true, as well.

I know this isn't an ending, this is a beginning.

Your presence on the air for the past 25 years hasn't been a "show," it's an institution, part of the fabric of America. It is the "turning the lights off and walking out the door" part that has me feeling indescribably sad. Sad because I know how many lives you've changed over a quarter of a century, mine being one of them. I can't even look at a "O" Magazine cover (all of which I've saved throughout their existence) without feeling a strong pang.

You've spoken to all kinds of people in all walks of life "from the sublime to the ridiculous," as the saying goes, and nobody does it better or with more healing power than you.

One of my "Aha" moments: All pain is the same. It's how you deal with it that makes a difference. I have had a few more "Aha" moments, thanks to you, my precious Oprah.

Everybody is acting at the level they know. And....

when you know better, you do better.

That is how I feel.

The Icon that is Oprah

Every death is a wake-up call to live life more fullly, more completely, more presently.

That's why it's happening. Some people need to be knocked upside the head, and other people need full-blown earthquakes in their life to get their attention.

Every death is a wake-up call to live life more fullly, more presently right now.  -- Oprah

Team 6 Pride

I am soaking up every bit of information on the "Target: Bin Laden" event and finding it mega interesting. So many questions arise. And yet, whether one is a fan or not, one has to admit, Obama's behavior was very cool under enormous pressures.

I am experiencing ever-increasing pride in our Navy Seals, especially Team 6. Certainly puts life in perspective, doesn't it?

Team 6 Kudos

Not a day for celebration; a burden lifted. The pain, suffering, and grieving of 9/11 carries on for those who lost loved ones. I was fortunate. Timing is everything. My husband was at the top of one of the buildings for business the Friday before. Bin Laden's death will not bring back all those who perished on that day.  We will never forget that day.  Those images are etched in our minds.

God Bless Team 6.
God Bless our Navy Seals.
God Bless America.

Profound Quote from Deepak Chopra

"To be financially secure don't spend money that you have not earned to buy things you don't need to impress people whom you don't like."   --Deepak Chopra

WOW.  I find this quote by Deepak Chopra, whom I've admired for many, many years, to be most profound.  I find myself doing this "to fit in" and I am happily getting to the point where I am happy enough with "self" that there is no need to impress anyone because... who are "they", anyway?  "They" are no better/worse than my own being.

Have a great, self-loving day!

The 50s Version of American Idol - and my Quest

My sister Margaretann was the female lead singer in the 50s of the group called "The Markeeds".  As many of you know, these groups were "the thing" back then.  Margaret (or Marg as I called her) had a great voice and had a basically low-key type of personality in her normal life.  However, when she sang, she sang with confidence.  Our cousin Frank (to the left of Margaret), the "father" person mentioned in the caption, also offered his vocals and played the piano for the group on occasion.  They played in various clubs throughout New Jersey.

They won several talent contests with Margaret as the lead singer, and one in particular landed them a guest spot on "The Original Ted Mack Amateur Hour" show.  This show was the 50s equivalent of today's "American Idol."  I can't imagine her excitement back then, and then the adventure of shopping for something to wear!
I craved some sort of remembrance of those days, at least vocally.  I knew they recorded several songs.  Since her early demise in 2006, nobody could come up with any of the tapes/reels from back in the day.  Sad, isn't it?  It took me several months of research and emailing back and forth with a man associated with the archives of the show.  Between Frank, myself and the archive specialist, and much to my great joy, we managed to locate the video of that particular show.  This is what I received:

The caption read:  "My Father at 18 years old on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour 08-23-1958 The Markeeds"

You might ask why I am bringing this out at this point in time.  It's not a special anniversary or anything.  I am, myself, a singer and heading to competition with my chorus in Philadelphia the end of March.  I get misty when I think of how happy and proud she was to hear I had been voted in as a member of Hickory Tree Chorus back in 1994.  There's a special song in our repertoire called "It's Your Song".  Every time I sing it, she is in my thoughts.  I must admit, the first 100 times I sang the song, it was difficult to get through.  But I am proud to follow in her footsteps.  A little side note:  every year HTC returns home with a medal...for the past 17 years that I have been a member.

With a loving heart, great pride, and missing my sister....
